Bible Verses on Forgiveness

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Psalm 32:1 (KJV)


The following bible verses on forgiveness let us know that our sins are forgiven because Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins.



Just confess and ask to be forgiven.

1 John 2:1-2 (King James Version)

1. My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

2. And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.


1 John 1:9 (King James Version)

9. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.


Psalm 103:2-3 (King James Version)

2. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

3. Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

Mark 11:25-26 (King James Version)

25. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

26. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.


Luke 6:37 (King James Version)

37. Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:


Colossians 3:13 (King James Version)

13. Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.


Luke 17:3-4 (King James Version)

3. Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.

4. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.



There are three bible verses on forgiveness in the Lord's prayer -

Matthew 6:12, 14 & 15 (King James Version)

12. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

14. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

15. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.



If we want our prayers to be heard we need to forgive others, according to these bible verses on forgiveness –

Mark 11:24-25 (King James Version)

24. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

25. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.





The Bible says that David was a man after God's own heart. He knew how to pray and ask for forgiveness. Here is an example -

Psalm 25:11, 16-18 (King James Version)

11. For thy name's sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.

16. Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted.

17. The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses.

18. Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.



These bible verses on forgiveness let us know what God will do about our sins once He forgives us.

Psalm 103:12 (King James Version)

12. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.


Hebrews 8:12 (King James Version)

12. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more


Isaiah 1:18 (King James Version)

18. Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.


Isaiah 43:25 (King James Version)

25. I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
