And Why Is Baptism Important?

Daily bible verses 177

What is baptism? Baptism is an act based on the greek word baptizo, which means to immerse.

What is the meaning of baptism? Baptism represents the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

Romans 6:1-6 King James Version (KJV)

1. What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

2. God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

3. Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

4. Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

5. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

6. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

We are plunged under the water, which represents Christ's burial, then raised back out of the water, which represents Christ's resurrection.

12. Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

13. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

Why is baptism important? Jesus told the church to teach and baptize.

Matthew 28:18-19 King James Version (KJV)

18. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

What is the meaning of baptism? It is a sign that we are members of the body of Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:12-13 King James Version (KJV)

12. For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

13. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
