Revelation 1:10 KJV
I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day…
Many Christians use Revelation 1:10 to defend worshipping God on Sunday. However, the Bible does not state that the Lord’s day is Sunday. The Bible states what day the Lord’s day is. There is no need to guess or assume. One just needs to take the time to study what the Bible has to say.
2 Timothy 2:15 KJV states, “study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”.
When Jesus was on earth, he let the people know what day the Lord’s day was -
Matthew 12:8 (KJV)
For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
Mark 2:28 (KJV)
Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Luke 6:5 (KJV)
And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
The Sabbath is the Lord’s day, it was the Lord that gave the sabbath to rest and worship on. It is holy unto the Lord. It is the sabbath of the Lord not the Jews.
Exodus 16:23 (KJV)
And he said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord:
Exodus 16:25 (KJV)
And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the Lord:
Exodus 16:29 (KJV)
See, for that the Lord hath given you the sabbath.
Exodus 31:15 (KJV)
Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord:
Exodus 35:2 (KJV)
2 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the Lord:
Leviticus 19:30 (KJV)
30 Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord.
Deuteronomy 5:14 (KJV)
14 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God:
The Lord’s day or 7th day Sabbath is one of the 10 commandments. It is the 4th commandment.
One of the first 4 commandments that show love to God.
Exodus 20:11 (KJV)
For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Let us be mindful of the following warning that Jesus gave us.
Mark 7:7 KJV
Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
The Lord's Day being Sunday is based on men honoring the resurrection of Jesus on Sunday it is not based on a thus saith the Lord. They also say they worship on Sunday because the disciples came together to breakbread on the 1st day of the week. However, the following verse lets us know they did this daily.
Acts 2:46
And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house ...
They also quote Paul -
1 Corinthians 16:2 KJV
Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
However, the verse is instructing ever saint to put their offerings together were ever they are. i.e. by him.
Men will take one verse that states they broke bread on the 1st day as proof the disciples worshipped on Sunday, while they discard the multiple verses of both the disciples and Paul teaching on the Sabbath the Jews and the Gentiles.
The Lord's Day VS the Day of the Lord
While preparing this it was suggested that I should compare the Lord's day with the Day of the Lord.
According to the Bible, the Day of the Lord is not a day of worship, but a day of judgement and retribution, or when Christ comes again.
Following are some verses that speak to this -
Isaiah 2:12 KJV
For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:
Isaiah 13:6 & 9 KJV
6 Howl ye; for the day of the Lord is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
9 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
Jeremiah 46:10 KJV
For this is the day of the Lord God of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries:
Joel 1:15 KJV
Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
Joel 2:1 KJV
Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand;
Joel 2:11
And the Lord shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?
2 Peter 3:10 KJV
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Let's watch and be ready for Jesus second coming and honor His day the Lord's Day the 7th day Sabbath.
