Gospel Song
Amazing Grace

by Rhema Marvanne, Jotta, The Sowetto Gospel Choir, and Wintley Phipps

The Gospel Song Amazing Grace is based on God's saving power as stated in Ephesians 2:4-8 King James Version (KJV)

4. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

5. Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

6. And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

7. That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

8. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

The song Amazing Grace has many renditions and versions, slow, fast, etc. Included on this page are 4 versions that I like.

The first version is by Rhema Marvanne.

Rhema Marvanne has a beautiful and amazing voice for her age. And this is a beautiful arrangement of the song.

Next is a version by Jotta.

He is a young person from Brazil. He gives a powerful rendition of Amazing Grace. The song is sung in two languages, English and I'm guessing Portuguese, if not Spanish.

The Words To The Gospel Song 'Amazing Grace'
as written by John Newton (1725-1807)

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

Next is a version of Amazing Grace by the Soweto Gospel Choir

I was blessed to see this group perform live in concert. They sang and danced for about 1 1/2 hours. Where they get that much energy from I don't know, but I guess it takes lots of practice.

I have tried doing the movements along with their songs (I have their DVD's) and its is exhausting, and I don't have to sing and do the movements.

And last but not least is a version by Wintley Phipps

Wintley Phipps provides some interesting black and white history, in reference to the song, before getting into the song.
